Is SketchUp CPU or GPU intensive?
SketchUp is a CPU-biased modeling package that benefits from strong single-core performance, but it isn't the sort of program that's built to take advantage of something like AMD's Threadripper series which comes with extremely high core counts on the high-end (But also severely reduced clock speeds).
Is VRAY CPU or GPU?
V-Ray runs on the CPU only and V-Ray GPU runs on the GPU and/or the CPU. As many of you might know: V-Ray processes differently than V-Ray GPU — even when both are running on CPUs.
Is i5 good for SketchUp?
It's slower than my desktop (RTX 2070) but still quite workable. Compared to my laptop, @Onl1XONE's CPU rates only slightly slower, the GPU perhaps noticeably so, but I would guess that you can build small models quite OK.
What PC do I need for SketchUp?
SketchUp for Web - System Requirements
Minimum Specifications | Recommended Specifications |
---|---|
2.1+ GHz Intel processor | 2.8+ GHz Intel processor |
4GB RAM | 8GB+ RAM |
700MB of available hard-disk space | At least 1GB of available hard-disk space |
Is 32GB RAM enough for VRAY?
While the exact amount of RAM you need is going to depend on your particular projects, for V-Ray Next GPU (and GPU rendering in general) we recommend double the amount of VRAM on the cards. So if you have four 8GB cards, totaling 32GB, we would advise 64GB of system memory.

---|---|
4GB RAM | 8GB+ RAM |
700MB of available hard-disk space | At least 1GB of available hard-disk space |
Intel HD integrated graphics card with at least 512MB video memory | Discrete Graphics card such as AMD Radeon R MB |
Does SketchUp use graphics card?
SketchUp requires a graphics card that supports OpenGL 3.0 or better. SketchUp will not run if your graphics card's OpenGL version is less than version 3.0. ... If it does not, you will need to upgrade your graphics card.
Which graphics card is best for SketchUp 2020?
We recommend any graphics card that fully supports OpenGL 3.0 or higher and has at least 64 MB of video memory. If you're going to create large models, we recommend a graphics card with more than 512 MB of video memory.
What processor is best for SketchUp?
High-Speed Processors Accelerate SketchUp 3D Modelling A processor with fewer cores and threads but higher clock speeds is the best performing option. If 3D modelling is your sole requirement then the AMD Ryzen and Intel Core processor ranges are the best types of Workstation platforms for you.
Why do we need a GPU for SketchUp?
- GPU based computing offloads intensive portions of an application to a computer’s GPU, while the remainder of the code runs on its CPU. Pioneered in 2007 by NVIDIA, GPU accelerators now power energy-efficient data centers in government labs, universities, enterprises, and small-and-medium businesses around the world.
What kind of Hardware do I need for SketchUp?
- A speedy hardware setup is essential for 3D rendering programs that are CPU- or GPU-based. CPU is your computer’s processor (the brain). GPU is the computer’s graphics card (the looks). Don’t be intimidated – most laptops and desktops these days have what you need for SketchUp to perform moderately well.
What do you need to know about SketchUp Part 2?
- Part 2 will be about setting up the ideal SketchUp user interface, and Part 3 focuses on the modeling process itself. A speedy hardware setup is essential for 3D rendering programs that are CPU- or GPU-based. CPU is your computer’s processor (the brain). GPU is the computer’s graphics card (the looks).
Why is SketchUp not working on my computer?
- Your computer’s RAM, processor speed, and graphics card all affect SketchUp’s performance. If SketchUp is noticeably sluggish, make sure your computer meets or exceeds the minimum requirements for your version of SketchUp. For details, see SketchUp Hardware and Software Requirements.
