Throughout It: Chapter Two, it becomes clear that Richie is a closeted gay man in love with his childhood best friend, Eddie (James Ransone plays the adult version). Mostly this revelation becomes clear through two scenes.

- Yes, I am talking about Richie being in love with Eddie, which made Eddie's death that much more sad. I'm not joking — I legit thought that Richie gave Eddie the most shit 'cause he was an easy target and then him carving their initials into the bridge was him being like, "Nah, we're really homies."

- In the first movie, he is played by Finn Wolfhard ( Stranger Things) and is the loud-mouth teen of the group whose vocabulary consists mainly of foul language and sarcasm, most of which is directed towards his BFF Eddie (James Ransone in Chapter Two and Jack Dylan Grazer in Chapter One ). Richie also has the most hilarious lines in Chapter One.

- In the end, it seems like Richie comes to terms with his sexuality within himself and is able to help kill Pennywise along with the other Losers. But before he's able to tell Eddie, Eddie is killed. At the end of the film, Eddie gets fatally injured trying to kill Pennywise and later dies.
Is the character of Richie gay in the book?
- “Boys,” we laughed. But in Chapter Two, it’s revealed Richie is gay, and he’s always had feelings for Eddie. The heavy teasing now makes a lot more sense. I don’t believe there was an intention to make Richie gay in the first movie, and the character isn’t gay in the books. This just sort of worked out and it came together perfectly.
