Can you play Arkham Knight without playing origins?
The game is the end of a series. There's nothing stopping you from playing it first and ignoring the other games, but you'll have a better time with the game if you play Arkham Asylum and Arkham City as well. Arkham Origins is optional, since it's set so far from the other games.

Absolutely yes, not only is the story connected, but, you'll need the practice before you play Arkham Knight, i.e. once you get used to the particular combat system in Asylum & City, Arkham Knight should be easier to play without frustration.

They are connected, but you don't need to play them in ordr to understand the story (except some small parts, but it's not very important). That said, between city and origins city is by far the better game.

- So yeah, I highly recommend playing both Asylum and City. Origins is cool on it's own, but not required for Knight. Asylum has the BEST atmosphere and the best Joker moments. You SHOULD play it, but you don't have to.
