Vilgefortz seemingly didn't use magic, instead he attacked Geralt with a staff. Vilgefortz easily defeated Geralt, leaving him alive for the beating to be taken as a 'lecture'.
Was Yennefer killed?
In the end of the game it is revealed, that Yennefer is probably alive, but has amnesia like Geralt, and that she is located somewhere in Nilfgaard.
Why does Vilgefortz hate Yennefer?
The sorceress is supposed to be similar to Yennefer- Vilgefortz hated the fact that he was not "good enough" for this woman, so he became a sorcerer. Vilgefortz may be trying to suggest that Geralt can make things work with Yen if he follows a similar path by joining Vilgefortz and learning magic.
Who was the person that Vilgefortz killed at?
