The original game is very hard, too, especially that final hallway before Death's boss battle with the Axe Knights and Medusa Heads. Super Castlevania IV has some more unique difficulties, like surreal platforming, and having to fight Slogra, Gaibon, Death, and Dracula all basically back-to-back.

And as far as Metroidvania style goes I think Order of Ecclesia (discounting Circle of the Moon because it definitely feels a bit different from the SotN style games) is easily the most difficult. Ecclesia, hands down.
