Are Crunchyroll Subs official?

For the shows that Crunchyroll does the subbing on, they contract out to various people. Crunchyroll is given the script from the anime studios before the show airs, which allows time for the contracted translators/editors/timers/ect... to finish the subtitles and have them ready in time for the show to be simulcasted.

Are Crunchyroll Subs accurate?

No translation is ever 100% accurate, and some are better than others. I prefer licensed subs over fansubs, and try to listen to the Japanese dialog while using the subtitles as sort of a guide.

Considering the cultural and certain language similarities it makes it easier to translate between the two.

Both have their strong points. On of the main strong points of dubs is that you don't have to be carefully watching the screen, sometimes even pausing, in order to catch everything that's being said. On the other hand, people tend to prefer the way the sub sounds. Not always, but that's the trend.

Simply because they can come up with the best equivalents to informal Japanese terms and for anime like Gintama, they give support references, which we clearly do not see in official subs. Furthermore, official subs don't translate songs or have karaoke text [yes, for the obvious reasons].
